"Let'south Become To The Hop" contains examples of:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Neil to Meg. He asks her to the Winter dance with a very bad-mannered pickup line and Million has to remind him that not only is she going to the dance with Lando but to stop asking her out.
  • Abusive Parents: A flashback showed that when Lois and her engagement for a dance were kidnapped, her father refused to pay ransom, stating they don't negotiate with kidnappers, and hung upwards Lois as she was begging for help before going back to his paper while dismissively saying "She'll exist alright".
  • Bait-and-switch: Right subsequently Peter says he has a plan to deal with the toad-licking epidemic, it cuts to a scene with him asking what the Principal thinks of the plan. The Chief points out that Peter never said what his plan is. He merely entered the Principal's office and asked what the Main thinks of the plan.
    • At the end, when Million is asked by ii popular guys to trip the light fantastic, she goes to Neil asking him if he would to. He tells her he'd exist honored... She then gives him her purse to hold for her while returned to hit the dance flooring with one of the popular guys.
  • Betty and Veronica: Peter (as new kid Lando) gets torn between taking either the Betty Meg or the Veronica Connie to the prom.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Peter falls off the roof, simply he'south saved by Spider-Man's webbing.

    Spider-Man: Everybody gets one.

  • Bowdlerize: The free-to-air syndicated version of this episode censors "That'south your butthole!" to merely "That'southward your butt!" during the "Gotta Give Up the Toad" musical number.
  • Bratty Teenage Daughter: Meg. While she had a correct to be upset about Lando (actually Peter) dumping her for Connie, her whining that her life was basically over crossed over into Wangst.
  • Comically Missing the Signal: When Million and Lois talk subsequently Peter (every bit Lando) dumps her for Connie:

Meg: Why don't I merely tattoo a big "L" on my forehead while I'm at it?

Lois: Now, Meg, y'all know my feelings on tattoos.

  • Compliment Backfire: When Peter talks nigh his old high schoolhouse shell Phoebe Diamond, and then let'due south Lois know he's her silver medal. She does non look amused as he kisses her.
  • Crossover: Lando's sneaking off to the dance is helped by Spider-Human.
  • Fun with Subtitles: At the offset of the episode, when the plane crashes, two Mexicans parachute out of the plane and talk to each other in Spanish, but the subtitles are in Korean.
  • Halfway Plot Switch: The school's toad-licking problem is dealt with by the halfway signal of the episode, with the storyline then switching to being near whether "Lando" is going to go to the dance with 1000000 or Connie.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gilt: Peter. He attempts to amend One thousand thousand's popularity by disguising himself as a popular loftier school student and taking her to the trip the light fantastic, only to get with Connie instead, but does make information technology up to her in the end.
  • Love Triangle: Between Meg/Peter(Lando)/Connie
  • Medium Blending: Peter said he took drugs once, and things became too real: Cue a live-activeness Peter on a park bench freaking out.
  • Never Plant the Body: The police are likewise lazy to follow up on this, and take Lando to exist dead.
  • Off-Model: During the "Give it Up" number, Peter is continuing on a cafeteria tabular array and his head gets smaller and smaller. This was likewise pointed out in the DVD commentary.
  • But Sane Man: Connie D'Amico's parents are the only people in the episode who find that "Lando" is clearly much older than he claims to be, and is dressed more like how yous'd expect a 1970s high schoolhouse student to dress.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Lampshaded by Brian when Peter (in his high schoolhouse disguise as Lando) chooses Connie over 1000000, as she is the most popular daughter in school merely like how his erstwhile beat Phoebe Diamond was the most pop girl back when Peter was in high school.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The famous commercial with the boy asking the owl how many licks information technology takes to get to the heart of a Tootsie Pop is parodied, with the boy asking how many toad licks it takes to land in state prison: "JUST ONE."
    • As Lando Griffin, Peter tries to bound-starting time the jukebox, Fonz-fashion in an endeavor to look cool to Connie and her friends, but breaks the glass while trying and cuts his hand. Ironically, he really does succeed in impressing Connie, every bit she and her friends mistake it for a deliberate human activity of vandalism.
    • The Breakfast Gild scene with the breakfast cereal logo characters talking to each other. Complete with the infamous ending of Peter reenacting Bender walking through the football field with his fist raised and "Don't Yous (Forget Most Me)" playing in the background.
  • Sleeping Dummy: Peter prepares one to sneak out from under Lois' nose. When she goes to bank check on him, the dummy speaks to her, courtesy of a tape recording Peter made of himself responding to the comments he predicts Lois will make.
  • The Tape Knew You Would Say That:
    • Peter leaves a tape recording of his voice to fool Lois while he's at the dance. At first it works, but then it starts to migrate off-topic. When Lois sees the tape player, the recording asks Lois to flip to Side B if she hasn't yet figured it out.
    • Slide projector example with Neil. Later she refuses to go to the dance with him, he has the projector evidence a slide with "why not?" written on it.
  • Visual Pun: Peter walks in on a detention session featuring "The Breakfast Society." Not the 1980s actors from the picture, actual breakfast mascots (like Tony the Tiger, the Trix Rabbit, etc) in detention re-enacting the scene where Bender tells the others about how his dad gave him cigarettes for Christmas.

Tony: You lot know what I got for Christmas? It was a banner freakin' twelvemonth at the Tiger business firm. I got a carton of cigarettes. Old man grabbed me and said, "Ey, smoke up Tony, they're GRRRRREAT!" Bounder.

  • Waxing Lyrical: The episode title comes from the chorus of "At the Hop" by Danny and the Juniors (1957).
